My Top Sleep Tips!
I am borderline obsessive about my sleep. I'm not my best self if I don't get a good night's sleep. I know how grumpy, agitated and impatient I am after a crappy sleep, and that's not who I want to be or how I want to live my days. I have created a few little rituals to slaaaay and use my 8 hours wisely.
A note that might be helpful - I definitely do not think you need to run out and spend a bunch of money; however, I do track my sleep with my Polar Ignite 3 watch, and I love seeing the stats. It helps me fine-tune my sleep, so I can see how much food, exercise, school etc., affect my sleep. It takes some time to see the patterns, but for me, it's worth it.
Here are my favourite tips.
Eye mask.
For some reason, this is number 1, and I struggle without it.I have a beautifully soft eye mask with just the right amount of weight. It's definitely more of a symbolic thing than a practical one as if by putting it on, I'm saying goodnight to my day and entering the deep darkness. It's absolutely a cue to my brain that it's time to sleep.
Magnesium Biglysiante.
I don't know enough about the science to explain; I can only say that I have the best sleep after taking it!
Background noise.
I struggle with absolute silence, but I also can't fall asleep to the TV or music. My dehumidifier works perfectly. A ticking clock also does the trick.
A cool room.
If I'm not snuggled up under my duvet, I struggle to sleep, so the temperature has got to be right! I start to let the flat cool down in the evening or open a window while I sleep.
Reishi Mushrooms by Puresport.
My sleep is next level with this stuff. It's really good for inflammation and supporting the immune system as well. I thought my sleep was good before, but this is a whole new depth I'm reaching. Since starting to take Reishi mushrooms, I'm spending more time in my deep sleep phase, and my resting heart rate has lowered by several beats. Super cool. (Note - I am an ambassador for Puresport. Use SWY20 for a discount)
Unwind oil by Puresport.
I use this once daily, either during the day or before sleep (if I know I have a busy day). I have the sweetest nights of sleep with wild dreams (in a good way!) without feeling groggy the following day. This + the reishi mushrooms are out of this world.
Caffeine Free.
You’re not going to like this one….but ditching caffeine has made a world of difference for me. If you are going to drink caffeine, try your best to stop before the afternoon. You might not think it affects you, but just wait till you sleep after a caffeine free day!
Stop Eating or Drinking after Dinner.
This is not a hard and fast rule, but I do try to stop any intake by 8pm forsure. Of course, if I’m hungry or thirsty I will nurture that, but I find that when I stop eating or drinking a few hours before bed, it means no midnight bathroom trips and my body isn’t working hard to digest food.
If you can snuggle a greyhound, that would be number one. Otherwise, I hope these tips are helpful!
Sleep tight, my friends!
